I don't feel that I stand out on this site because of my age, because of my gender or because of my choice in fanfiction. I'm a fifteen-year-old girl who reads and writes slash. what's new there?

I feel that I stand out because I'm not constantly striving to please people in terms of what I listen to, what I watch or what I do. I'm not going to listen to nirvana because it's cool to have a hero who blew his brains out. I'm not going to listen to the smiths because morrissey's boring, tortured voice makes me feel better about myself, and I'm not going to listen to joan jett because I believe in girl power. I am going to listen to fall out boy even if you say they're sell outs. I am going to listen to mcfly's bubblegum pop even if you say they're maunfactured, and I am going to listen to the beatles even if you say they're too old. I'm not going to dance around and pretend to be "random", screaming that frank iero loves skittles. I'm not going to spend four hours waxing my hair into an elaborate style because I think it's somehow unique, and I'm not going to throw myself into a story with my favourite rock star to make myself sound cooler, more fashionable and funnier. I am going to stay at home and serach endlessley for old episodes of the x-files and the office. I am going to be satisfied having only a few friends who mean the world to me rather than a huge crowd of scene kids, and I am going to slave over my written work, trying to make it readable, realistic and relatable.

and even if that makes me sound boring, ordinary and normal, I don't mind because that's what I am. I have hopeless hair, reading glasses, freckles and frayed jeans, but somehow, it makes me stand out more than if I had bright pink hair, racoon eyeliner, neon skinny jeans and a hello kitty t-shirt.
at least, that's what I think :]
